Parliamentarians, by virtue of their seminal role in
policy-making, are uniquely placed to advocate their governments and others
to focus on investing more in health for national development as also for
strengthening of the national public health systems to address the
contemporary and emerging health challenges through the public health
approach. They can also play a significant role in advocating for policies
that call for an enhanced role of other relevant sectors in contributing to
these efforts. With this in view, the World Health Organization Regional
Office for South-East Asia is organizing a Regional Conference of
Parliamentarians on Strengthening of National Public Health Systems for
Emerging Health Challenges.
