AI outbreaks in Poultry: Bhutan during 2010
Bhutan
witnessed first outbreak of poultry AI only in 2010 in a southern district
bordering with India.
Five poultry AI outbreaks were reported from Bhutan during February-March,
2010.A total of 3558 birds were susceptible of which 18 died and 2970 were
destroyed. All outbreaks were reported from Chukha
district bordering with India.
Backyard farming is common for egg production and outbreaks have been
reported among backyard poultry. The distribution of highly pathogenic avian
influenza (H5N1) outbreaks reported during February-March 2010 is presented
in Table 1 and location of outbreak areas is shown in map 1;

Adequate containment operations were taken for human
surveillance. Till date no suspected cases of Human Avian Influenza have been
detected.
