An overview of Dengue in SEA Region (2011)

The SEA Region harbours 52% of the population at risk in all Member States except DPR Korea.   The region developed Comprehensive guidelines on Control and Prevention of Dengue in 2011 and the same has been distributed in the region.

SEA Region reported a gradual increase in number of dengue cases from 63672 (2000)   to 355314(2010). Similarly deaths also increased from 656 (2000) to 1980 (2010). Subsequently as a result of improvement in progranmme management including vector Control measures, number of cases and deaths reduced to 176 719 and 887 respectively during 2011.

ASEAN and WHO call for united fight against dengue

JAKARTA, 15 June 2011—At the launch of Dengue Day, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the World Health Organization (WHO) today called on all sectors of society to unite in the battle against the disease, which has developed into a formidable threat to health in Asia.

Regional Meeting on Dengue and Chikungunya Fever

A regional meeting on Dengue and Chikungunya Fever was held in Chiang Rai, Thailand on 7-10 June 2010.  The general objective of the meeting was to strengthen prevention and control of dengue and chikungunya fever in the SEA Region.

Asia Pacific core group finalises plan to fight Dengue

The inaugural South-East Asia Regional Technical Advisory Group (RTAG) meeting on dengue to provide technical guidance to the Regional Director of SEARO on the prevention and control of the vector borne disease was held in Phuket, Thailand from 17-18 September 2007. Complimentarily between implementation research and programme management were considered crucial to the success of dengue prevention and control programmes.
