New Report :
Eliminating Malaria, Learning from the Past, Looking Ahead
A new report released by the Roll Back
Malaria Partnership (RBM) reveals that an increasing number of countries are
setting their sights on eliminating malaria, with three countries already
certified as malaria- free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the last
4 years. Authored by the WHO's Global Malaria Program, with data collected from
all geographical regions, the latest report in the RBM Progress & Impact
series, Eliminating Malaria, Learning from the Past, Looking Ahead,
identifies the current trend towards ending malaria, with 7 countries having
recently eliminated malaria and working to prevent re-introduction, and
another 10 countries are currently monitoring transmission to arrive at zero
malaria cases.

International Malaria Colloquium 2010
To mark the 60th anniversary of the
National Malaria Programme of Thailand and 50th
anniversary of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol
University, the International Malaria Colloquium (IMC) 2010, on the theme ‘Past, Present and Future of
Malaria elimination and control: challenges, hopes and solutions’ was held on
1 Dec 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The function was inaugurated by Dr Samlee
Plianbangchang, Regional Director, World Health
Organization, Regional Office for South-East
Asia. To mark the
occasion Dr Robert Newman, Director, Global Malaria Programme,
WHO, Geneva

Progress made
in the SEA Region, 2005 - 2009
All the member countries had adopted ACT as first line
drug for treatment of uncomplicated P. falciparum
malaria. All countries in the Region are implementing the 2 main vector
control measures (LLINs and IRS) depending on the
epidemiological setting. More Info…

Malaria death
is declining in Bangladesh
Malaria deaths
decreased from 501 in 2005 to 154 in
2008 showing a decline of 59% (Total reported deaths in 2009 (Jan-Sept) was
only 39). This was the impact of highly efficacious regimen. More Info…
