DPR Korea

Myanmar

Nepal

Sri lanka

Thailand

Timor-Leste

Focal epidemics and outbreaks due to malaria are common in the countries of SEA Region although their reporting, verification and response remain unsatisfactory. The prediction and response are very important in the countries of the region because of vulnerability of areas and populations where the transmission may not be intense but the populations are at high risk in the member countries.

Conditions for the occurrence of epidemics and outbreaks are very favourable. Explosive outbreaks have been reported from Rajasthan India, while in DPR Korea the disease has re-emerged after having been eradicated.

The epidemics are often caused by exaggerations in seasonal variations and this is quite common. These combined with malariogenic conditions leads to epidemics as has been the case in many epidemics in the countries of the region. Examples include the epidemic in Menoreh hills in Indonesia, epidemics in Nepal, Bangladesh and other countries.
